And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”
The youth group at Lighthouse is offered to our teens as well as our community friends in grades 6-12. It stands as yet another foundation for our young people to enhance and grow their faith in Jesus Christ. Through several different opportunities, the youth have a chance to serve in their community. Such activities include volunteering in places such as the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center as well as the Rescue Mission in Providence.
This year, our mission is to put God first and live second. By doing this, we are able to clearly see His love for us as well as humanity. Our eyes are open to the type of person Jesus loves. The type of life He considers sacred in His hands. It is you. It is me. It is all of us.
According to His word in John 13:13-17, we are offered precise direction on how we should serve one another:
You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
Our youth group is a place where teens can gather with like-minded individuals and are given the tools to go out into the community and live their faith through being an example of the Word of God. As in Acts 28:31, the apostle Paul “Boldly and without hindrance preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Youth group meets at the church the 1st & 2nd Friday of the month (October -May) 5:30 – 8:00 PM. Additional activities are held throughout the year. It is staffed by Christ driven leaders who will accept you, listen to you, grow with you, pray with you and serve you.
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
